❄️ Why I Think Tallow Makes Sense for Winter Skin
Share
Cold weather brings a combination that can be particularly hard on skin: colder temperatures outside, lower humidity and dry heated air inside.
Our skin has a natural protective barrier that helps keep moisture in. When that barrier becomes dry or compromised, we can start experiencing the familiar signs of winter skin: tightness, rough patches, flaking and irritation.
Most moisturizers, even the really rich ones, contain a significant amount of water along with ingredients designed to attract moisture, soften the skin and help prevent that moisture from evaporating.
In my personal experience, after several months of dry heat in the house and cold temperatures outside, no amount of moisturizer is enough to fix my dry, itchy, flaky skin.
Tallow is, in my view, a game changer because tallow is a fat rather than a water-based moisturizer. It naturally contains fatty acids including oleic, palmitic and stearic acids. These types of lipids can help soften the skin and support its natural protective barrier.
That richness is one of the things I notice immediately when I use it, and it made a huge difference for me last winter.
You use a tiny amount, warm it between your fingers and work it into the skin. It doesn't take much for skin to feel soft and moisturized.
For someone like me who was accustomed to using large globs of cream, it was a pleasant surprise.
For anyone who lives in a cold climate or is an outdoor winter sports enthusiast, I think tallow moisturizer is a must-have to help your skin survive the winter season. It is simple, rich and incredibly effective when cold temperatures, wind and dry indoor heat are taking a toll on your skin.
Simple. Clean. Thoughtfully Chosen.
